Barry Lane, a 62-year-old English golfer and five-time winner on the European Tour and former Ryder Cup player, passed away on Sunday, according to official reports.

Lane is fourth on the all-time list of European Tour (now DP World Tour) appearances, having made 693 of them.

The European Tour’s CEO, Keith Pelley, expressed his “great sadness” upon Barry Lane’s loss.

From 1988 until 1992, Lane dominated the Scottish Open. In 1993, he won the European Masters and in 1994, he won the Balearic Open.

The next time he won, at the 2004 British Masters, would be his fifth and final.

The British Open in 1993, the same year he made his lone Ryder Cup appearance, was Lane’s highest finish at a major. He finished in 13th position.
