Leg spinner Jafer Chohan, 20, has signed a rookie deal with Yorkshire that runs through the 2023 season.

Chohan, who rose through the Middlesex levels and participated in the Berkshire team that won the National Counties 50-over competition last season, has subsequently made an impression at the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA) and will join the Yorkshire team next week.

During his stay at SACA, Chohan had the opportunity to put his abilities to the test in matches against the county’s 2nd XI. He was later impressed during SACA’s open day at the Adil Rashid Cricket Centre in November, and as a result, Yorkshire invited him to a trial.

“We are thrilled to have signed Jafer for the 2023 season having been impressed over the last few months,” Darren Gough, Yorkshire’s director of cricket said. “He is an impressive player with a unique skill set and I look forward to seeing what he can do in a Yorkshire shirt in 2023.”

The bowler will be eligible for selection in all forms at the start of the season, and the club will support Chohan while he pursues his education at Loughborough University.

SACA co-founder & Managing Director Dr. Tom Brown said: “We’re delighted for Jafer and very excited to see what he can do now he has the chance to showcase his skills on the professional circuit. We’d like to thank Yorkshire for giving him this opportunity and look forward to seeing him in action for the white rose in 2023.”
