Joao Felix joins Chelsea on loan for the balance of the current season.
Joao Felix played for Benfica before joining Atletico Madrid.
He was also voted Atleti Player of the Year in the previous season.
Joao Felix, a Portuguese forward who recently transferred from Atletico Madrid to Stamford Bridge on loan, will be a member of the Chelsea team for the balance of the current campaign. Prior to moving to the Spanish city in the summer of 2019, the 23-year-old played for Benfica in his native Portugal for a transfer fee that set records for both clubs.
“A skilful and stylish attacker, Joao Felix is most effective when roaming fluidly across the forward line and involving himself in the build-up play,” Chelsea said in a statement.
Speaking after joining Chelsea, Felix was looking forward to the new challenge.
“Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge,” he said.
Joao Felix played for the Atletico team that won La Liga two seasons ago, and in his first season with Benfica as a teenager, he also won the league.
The Golden Boy award, given to the greatest young player in Europe, went to the Portuguese international in 2019. The club’s supporters also selected him as Atleti Player of the Year in the previous campaign.
Felix contributed two assists throughout the tournament and scored an important goal in Portugal’s 3-2 victory over Ghana in the tournament’s first match in Qatar. He has 28 caps to his name so far.
