Najam Sethi, chair of the PCB Management Committee, approved the reinstatement of Departments/Services Organizations, Regions, and District/Zonal Cricket Associations on Monday.

With these notifications in place, 16 RCAs will compete for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in the 2023-24 season’s August opener, while 8 departments will compete for the Patron’s Trophy.

More information regarding the 2023-24 domestic cricket season’s Grade-II, 50-over, and 20-over events for regional and departmental sides will be released at a later date.

The PCB Constitution 2019 replaced the Departments/Services Organization, Regions, and District/Zonal Cricket Associations with the six Cricket and ninety City Cricket Associations, but this will be revoked in December 2022.

“In response to the Ministry’s notifications of 22 December 2022 about getting rid of the PCB constitution and restoring the PCB constitution of 2014, the Management Committee of the PCB is formally announcing the return of all Departments/Service Organizations, Regions, and District/Zonal Cricket Associations.

“I am happy to affirm the formal restoration of Departments/Services Organisations, Regions, and District/Zonal Cricket Associations under the PCB Constitution 2014,” said Sethi.

“We will give all of our cricketers equal and fair chances to show off their skills so they can make a career out of the sport. This is our goal, our promise, and our resolve.” The only way to accomplish this is to broaden our cricket canvas, which in 2019 only featured a handful of sportsmen and teams. There had a negative influence on the standards, performances, and rankings of our national sides in the international arena because of this attitude, which harmed the livelihood of hundreds of cricketers and led to a talent drain.

“We can’t undo the mistakes of the last four seasons, but we can quickly go back to our tried-and-true model and structure for cricket, so that the sport and its players can do well and grow. We are making great strides in this direction, and more positive developments for Pakistan cricket and our cricketers will be announced in the near future.”
