Nurul Hasan, a wicket-keeper batsman for Bangladesh, confessed he is worried about his future because his fractured index finger has not fully healed after having surgery for it.

In 2022, Nurul was chosen to lead the Bangladesh T20I team on their trip of Zimbabwe. However, he suffered a finger injury during the second T20I in Harare and was forced to withdraw from both that tour and the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

He underwent surgery to recover from the wound in Singapore, where hand surgeon Dr. Anthony Foo at the Raffles Hospital carried out a closed reduction and pinning technique.

Prior to the T20 World Cup, Nurul returned to play after the T20I tri-series in New Zealand. He then continued to play for Bangladesh. But Nurul really felt the effects of it during the second Test against India in Dhaka, where he had to take suppository in order to play. His finger was still giving him pain at the time.

“As far as the state of injured finger is concerned, I have taken an injection after the last match (second Test against India) and that injection was a pain reliever. After that injection it (injured finger) is still numb and if stays this way it is ok but after the reaction of the injection gets over the pain might increase.”

“I played the Test series with suppository because there was huge pain and I was unable to do anything. Whenever the ball hit my left hand it was giving some kind of a shock so I was taking even the left side ball with my right hand. Let’s see I have had the injection and it is expected to have a reaction for couple of months and it (my finger) might get better,” Nurul was quoted

Nurul asked himself if having the surgery was the best decision, and he added that he is now hoping against hope that his finger would recover quickly. “There is currently nothing I can do and no other alternative for me. I’m not sure if having the surgery was a mistake or not. I might now think that the operation wouldn’t have been necessary and that it would have been better. On the other side, if I had skipped the surgery, things might have gotten worse.” The recent pain-reliever injection was administered as directed by the surgeon, according to the medical officer of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who is also praying for the best results for Nurul.

“We had a routine check and as per the suggestion of the surgeon we had given him an injection. We are not sure whether he will need further injection or not because we will update the surgeon about his development and he (surgeon) will decide the next course of action.”
