Fakhar Zaman is back from being hurt and will bat first. Haris Sohail will bat in the middle order and has also been called back for the series. Sohail hasn’t played for Pakistan in an ODI since October 2020.
Uncapped Tayyab Tahir got his first call because he did well in tournaments in his own country. Also, leg-spinner Usama Mir has been added to the team in place of Shadab Khan, who got hurt.
Shahid Afridi, who is the interim chairman of selectors, said, “I talked to Shadab this morning. He wasn’t feeling well because he hurt his finger, so he wasn’t chosen for the series against New Zealand.”
Afridi said that the team management was talked to by the selection committee before the team for the three-match series was announced.
The ODI series will be played in Karachi. Games are set for January 9, 11, and 13.
“We asked Babar and Saqlain to pick their top 16 before deciding on this team. Where we thought things could be better, we talked about it,” Afridi said.
“It was a big job for me, but Pakistan is full of talented people, so it made me feel good. I’m only here for a short time, but it’s important to think about Pakistan’s future,”
“We were told to only keep squads for matches against New Zealand, but we made our decisions with the future in mind. We’ve also paid attention to how people do in domestic cricket,” he said.
Pakistan’s squad for the three match ODI series: Babar Azam (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Salman Ali Agha, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shan Masood, Tayyab Tahir and Usama Mir
