PSL 8: Some ‘Stats’ to look forward before start of Season 8
The eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which has supporters awaiting the T20 competition with bated breath, is quickly approaching.
The PSL 8 opening ceremony will take place in Multan on February 13 before the tournament’s first match between the 2021 champions Multan Sultans and the reigning champions Lahore Qalandars; the PSL 8 closing ceremony and final will take place on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host the play-offs.
Lahore Qalandars will try to become the first team to win consecutive championships, while Islamabad United will try to make history by winning the trophy three times.
Each team will play five home games: one each versus Islamabad United, Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars, and Karachi Kings.
Eleven games will be played in Rawalpindi, nine games each in Karachi and Lahore, and five games in Multan.
Let’s look at some of the noteworthy PSL statistics from the past.
Islamabad United have the most wins in PSL history, with 41 against their name in 77 matches.
Australia’s Tim David has the highest strike-rate, minimum 10 innings, in PSL history with 182.47.
Wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has hit the most number, 89, of sixes in PSL after seven full seasons.
Islamabad United notched up the highest total in PSL history after scoring 247-2 in Abu Dhabi against Peshawar Zalmi in 2021. Australia’s Usman Khawaja scored a ton to set up the massive total.
Rashid Khan has the best economy in PSL after conceding only 5.88 runs per over in 17 matches.
