Real Sociedad claimed third place after win over Athletic

Real Sociedad defeated Athletic Club 3-1 on Saturday at Anoeta Stadium to record their fourth straight victory and move into the top three of the La Liga standings.

Alexander Sorioth, Takefusa Kubo, and Mikel Oyarzabal each scored a goal to give the Sociedad a victory against their Basque opponents.

After Friday night’s victory, Real Sociedad moved up to third place in La Liga, three points behind Real Madrid in second place and six points behind Barcelona in first.

Kubo extended the advantage after Sorioth’s first goal in the 25th minute, but Oihan Sancet pulled the score to 2-1 before the half.

Sociedad reclaimed a two-goal lead in the second half when Oyarzabal scored from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute.

Earlier, Osasuna defeated Mallorca with a goal scored by Aimar Oroz early in the second half.

Meanwhile, Girona came from behind to defeat Sevilla with a late winner from Yangel Herrera.

After Cristhian Stuani had grounded Sevilla’s first-half lead given by Tiangay Nanzou in the 13th minute, Herrera scored in the 88th minute.

In another game on Saturday, Isi Palazon scored in the 66th minute to give Rayo Vallecano a 1-0 victory over Valladolid.
