Rishabh Pant to miss Indian Premier League (IPL) due to road accident. Pant crashed his Mercedes SUV north of New Delhi before dawn on December 30. The 25-year-old suffered multiple injuries, including a torn ligament in his right knee.

Rishabh Pant of India will miss the cash-rich Indian Premier League due to injuries sustained in a road accident last month, according to former national cricket board chief Sourav Ganguly.

When he crashed his Mercedes SUV north of New Delhi before dawn on December 30, the India star suffered multiple injuries. When his car caught fire, he was rescued by a bus driver and conductor.

The annual two-month tournament, which will start in late March or early April and feature some of the biggest international stars in the game, has Pant serving as captain of the Delhi Capitals team.

“It will be a fantastic IPL (for the team), we will do well, but Rishabh Pant’s injury will have an impact on the Delhi Capitals,” Ganguly said on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old was rushed to the hospital after the accident and admitted for a few days before being flown back to Mumbai for any further treatment and surgery.

Pant suffered several injuries, including a torn ligament in his right knee, a sprained wrist and ankle, and back abrasions, according to the Indian cricket board.

Pant, a wicketkeeper and flamboyant batter, is a Test squad mainstay who has played a key role in some of India’s most memorable victories over the last three years.

However, his white-ball form has been inconsistent in recent months, and he was left out of the squads for the ongoing one-day internationals and T20s against Sri Lanka just days before the crash.

Additionally, Pant is anticipated to miss Australia’s upcoming tour of India in February and March, when the two countries’ longtime rivals will play four Test matches.
