Shan Masood, a left-handed batsman, has been selected vice-captain of Pakistan’s ODI side for the New Zealand series.

Shan, who last played an ODI against Australia in 2019, will return to white-ball cricket after nearly four years away.

Shan will be Babar’s deputy during the home ODI series against New Zealand, which begins on January 9 in the absence of regular vice-captain Shadab Khan due to injury.

“Because Shadab Khan injured his index finger last week, Shan Masood has been selected vice captain of the men’s side for the three One-Day Internationals against New Zealand,” PCB said in a statement.

After suffering an injury during the Big Bash League, Shadab returned to Pakistan (BBL). For the Hobart Hurricanes, he played in five games, scoring 58 runs and grabbing seven wickets. His finger injury caused him to miss the sixth game.

The Pakistani ODI team will be consist of:  Babar Azam (captain), Shan Masood ( vice-captain ), Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Salman Ali Agha, Shahnawaz Dahani, Tayyab Tahir and Usama Mir.
