Moeen Ali set to withdraw from PSL to focus on upcoming ODI World Cup

Moeen Ali, a talented all-rounder for England, is expected to withdraw from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in order to concentrate on the forthcoming ODI World Cup and play for his country in Bangladesh, according to The Mirror.

Moeen has already participated in 36 cricket matches in three different formats this winter since being signed by two-time PSL champions Islamabad United.

The England white-ball vice-captain has travelled widely, starting with a seven-match T20I series in Pakistan. Before coming to South Africa for the current ODI series, he played in Australia, where he won the T20 World Cup, Abu Dhabi in the T10, and the UAE in the ILT20, and it is wearing him out.

The centrally contracted all-rounder recognises that the three ODI and three T20 tour to Bangladesh is an important milestone for him before the ODI World Cup in India. His attention is on the 50-over World Cup.

Furthermore, he wants to take advantage of his brief two-week stay at home before reporting back to duty for England and completing his middle order form.

Moeen has a special fondness for the PLS because his family has Pakistani ancestry, but he also wanted to give himself the best chance of leading England to back-to-back 50-over World Cups, so something had to give.

Alex Hales, the top order batsman for England, earlier withdrew from the English team’s tour of Bangladesh in favour of playing in the PSL rather than for his country.

Sam Billings, Liam Dawson, and James Vince are just a few of the cricketers from England who chose to skip national service in favour of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) marquee tournament.

The PSL 8 will begin on February 13 with the inaugural match at the Multan Cricket Stadium between the reigning champions Lahore Qalandars and the 2021 champion Multan Sultans.

Eleven games will be played in Rawalpindi, nine games each in Karachi and Lahore, and five games in Multan.
