NZ vs SL: New Zealand wrap up huge win over Sri Lanka
NZ vs SL: Amelia Kerr and Suzie Bates both managed to score an incredible fifty runs in the Group 1 match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday. Sri Lanka was then bowled out for a party total of 60, giving New Zealand a commanding 102-run victory.
Despite a promising start, Sri Lanka was eliminated from the tournament, while New Zealand’s chances of reaching the semifinals are dependent on the outcome of the final group match between Bangladesh and South Africa.
After deciding to bat first, New Zealand amassed a respectable total of 162/3, helped greatly by an incredible 110-run partnership for the second wicket between Amelia and Bates.
Amelia scored a brave 48-ball 66 that included six boundaries, while Bates made 56 off of 49.
In response, Sri Lanka struggled greatly in the chase as none of their batters scored in excess of 20, and nine of them were bowled out for under ten.
With a combined bowling effort that saw at least one wicket for each of the six bowlers they used, the White Ferns quickly defeated Sri Lanka in the space of 16 overs.
