Three of Manchester United’s key players have been ruled out of their Premier League match against Leeds United, manager Erik ten Hag revealed, dealing a crushing blow to the Red Devils.
Ten Hag disclosed that Brazilian superstar Antony has been ruled out due to injury and has now added his name to the growing list of injured players.
Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial are still not prepared to make their comebacks, according to the Dutch coach.
Due to chronic ailments, Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are already sidelined, and Casmeiro has started serving a three-match suspension.
On Saturday, Casmeiro was issued a straight red card for grabbing Will Hughes by the throat while playing for Crystal Palace.
“They are not involved tomorrow and the same with Antony, also not available tomorrow, so we have to sort it out,” he remarked on Tuesday when discussing Martial and McTominay
“I always have to play with the players who are available and we have a squad, we have many good players in our squad who are also not playing in the starting XI and I have to do it.
“After a game, I can’t say Casemiro is not there, Anthony Martial is not there, we have to win, this squad all players in are Man United capable, we have to win all the games.”
Ten Hag asserted that Casemiro’s red card was an error in judgement, but the Red Devils would not file an appeal to get the suspension against Casemiro overturned.
“Consider, yeah, still it’s for me, not the right decision, but I don’t think we have a chance in a legal process,” he said.
As they enter the Carabao Cup final and the fifth round of the FA Cup, Ten Hag’s team is in excellent form, having won five of their past seven league games since the post-World Cup resumption.
However, injuries have been a recent problem for them.
The 53-year-old disagreed with Leeds United’s decision to fire Jesse Marsch on Monday.
“It’s always sad if a manager, a colleague, gets sacked. So, in general, I don’t believe in it that you sack a manager and get better results. Most of the time it doesn’t work.
“Let the manager finish their work and make a good evaluation. But the pressure is high with decision makers at football clubs and they turn. But if you see the facts, most of the time it doesn’t work out well.”
At 1:00 am (PST), the 13-time Premier League champions will play Leeds.
