PSL 8: “I am looking to lay a solid platform for my side” says Sharjeel Khan
Before the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), left-handed hitter Sharjeel Khan showed up for practise with significantly better fitness.
Sharjeel, who plays for Karachi Kings in the PSL, has been working hard to get in shape for the next season.
The powerful batter trained with the Kings’ squad at full strength. Sharjeel performed knocking on the side of the nets with the aid of net bowlers. Later, to prepare for the much anticipated season, he faced bowlers in the practise nets.
Before the PSL 8 season, Sharjeel discussed his approach to the batting powerplay in an interview.
The aggressive left-hander, who is notorious for going after the opposition, thinks that the first six overs of an inning are very important in determining how the game will turn out.
“I believe 70 to 80 per cent of the match is defined by how the first six overs go. What I have learned over the years that a team which has the most boundaries wins the match, so I try to milk the first six overs,” Sharjeel was quoted as saying by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a press release on Saturday.
“I am also looking to lay a solid platform for my side and if I continue to bat after the completion of the first six overs then I look to make sure that I carry that momentum.
“It is important to not to forget the basics and try to gauge the conditions. So usually, I do try to take four balls or an over as every day is a new day and conditions are different. Whether I am facing a spinner or a pacer, the plan remains the same, examine the conditions and then go for the attack and this often proves to be beneficial for the team as well.”
