Karachi Kings defeated Multan Sultans by 66 runs to earn their second victory of the ongoing eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Sunday.

Being given the opportunity to bat first, Karachi set a challenging target of 168 runs before dismissing Multan for 101 runs in 16.3 overs.

Tayyab Tahir scored a half-century, and Tabraiz Shamsi, Shoaib Malik, and Imad Wasim displayed superb spin bowling.

Multan’s hitters struggled to get going in response to the target as Karachi’s spin bowling shone and prevented their opponents from settling.

With the help of four boundaries, Shan Masood scored 25 runs in 16 balls before retiring.

Shoaib Malik, a spinner, cleaned up Rilee Rossouw in the meanwhile with a stunning throw. Only seven runs could be scored by the left-hander in six balls.

After scoring seven runs, David Miller, a fellow countryman of Tabraiz Shamsi, was the next batter to strike out.

In his third over, seasoned all-rounder Malik struck once more, sending Multan’s captain Muhammad Rizwan (29) out to the pavilion. The wicket-keeper hitter attempted to play a sweep shot to the leg side, but the ball hit the edge and Tayyab Tahir, making his debut, completed the catch.

In Karachi, it was spinners’ day as Shamsi once more delivered for his team, bowled Khushdil Shah (4) with an excellent delivery.

Usama Mir was removed by the South African spinner after scoring 10 runs, earning him his third wicket.

Carlos Braithwaite was dismissed by skipper Imad Wasim in the subsequent over (1).

In the same over, the left-arm spinner removed Akeal Hosein (2). Ben Cutting managed to catch the left-handed batter who had chosen to try for a six.

Anwar Ali was the ninth batter to be struck out, scoring 12 runs off of 12 balls. Akif Javed struck out the hitter who was right-handed.

By trapping Abbas Afridi for an LBW, Malik put an end to Multan’s innings.

Akif and Imad each grabbed two wickets for Karachi, while Malik and Shamsi each claimed three wickets.

Previously, the Karachi Kings completed their allotted 20 overs with a score of 167-3.

At one point, it appeared as though Karachi would put up a huge score, but the Multan bowlers bowled exceptionally effectively in the final overs to force a tie.

James Vince, the opener, left the game after scoring 27 runs in 12 balls, and Anwar Ali sent the English player back to the hut.

However, Matthew Wade and Tayyab Tahir put up an outstanding hundred-run partnership for the second wicket, scoring 109 runs in 83 balls.

Ihsanullah, who had taken the most wickets in the competition, had Tahir caught in front of the stumps, but not before the former had amassed 65 runs in 46 balls. The right-hander confidently hit eight fours and a six over his innings.

Imad Wasim, the captain, only faced six balls, but he made the most of them by scoring 14 runs on a four and a six.

With figures of 2-22 in four overs, Ihsanullah was Multan’s top bowler.

It should be noted that during the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight match at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi, Multan Sultans won the toss and elected to bowl first against Karachi Kings.
