Peshawar Zalmi set Islamabad United a target of 184 runs after being asked to bat first on Thursday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight Eliminator.

Peshawar got off to a fast start, with openers Babar Azam and Saim Ayub scoring 60 runs in 4.4 overs.

Pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr, on the other hand, provided Islamabad with a much-needed breakthrough after Ayub, who scored 23 runs in 16 balls, miscued a pull shot and was caught at mid-on by Faheem Ashraf.

Azam looked in great form, scoring 64 runs in 39 balls with 10 fours.

During his impressive knock, the Zalmi captain also became the fastest player to score 9,000 runs in T20 cricket. Prior to today’s match, Azam needed 35 runs to reach the milestone, which he easily accomplished thanks to some spectacular shots.

Mohammad Haris also added impetus to the innings in the middle overs, scoring 34 off 17 balls. He hit three fours and two fives.

After a strong start, it appeared that Peshawar would easily surpass 200 points. Islamabad, on the other hand, made a strong comeback in the death overs to ensure that this was not the case.

Shadab Khan took two wickets, including Azam’s prized scalp, but allowed 40 runs in four overs.

The winner of today’s match will advance to the second Eliminator, which will take place tomorrow at the same location.

Multan Sultans defeated Lahore Qalandars in yesterday’s Qualifier to secure their place in the PSL 8 final. The defending champions, on the other hand, will have another chance to qualify for the final in the second Eliminator.

Peshawar is led by Pakistan’s most prolific batter, Babar Azam, while Islamabad is led by all-rounder Shadab Khan.

In terms of head-to-head competition, both teams won one match each during the PSL 8 league stage.
