Tiger Woods will not be participating in the Players Tournament this coming week, which suggests that the 15-time major champion’s next contest will be the Masters at Augusta National in April.

The field for the PGA Tour’s marquee event in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, was revealed on Friday, and Woods, who won the Players in 2001 and 2013, was not included.

Woods last competed at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera in February, still constrained by the severe lower right leg injuries he sustained in a vehicle accident in February 2021.

On Sunday, he admitted that it “definitely was a little bit more tough than I probably let on,” but he still made the cut and tied for 45th.

With the exception of declaring he planned to compete in all four majors and potentially “a handful” of minor events, Woods had given no indications of his future itinerary at Riviera.

Tiger said, “Like I told you guys last year, I’m not going to play any more than probably the majors and maybe a couple more,”

“That’s it, that’s all my body will allow me to do. My back the way it is, all the surgeries I had on my back, my leg the way it is, I just can’t. That’s just going to be my future.”

Woods competed in his first tour-level competition at Riviera since missing the cut at the Open Championship in July. He missed the US Open in order to prepare for St. Andrews.

When he returned to competition in the Masters last year, he finished tied for 47th, but he withdrew after the third round of the PGA Championship.
