Karachi Whites Secure Spot in Pakistan Cup Final
In a gripping encounter at the Pakistan Cup, Karachi Whites emerged victorious against Multan Region in the second semi-final, clinching a 43-run win. The match, unfortunately, concluded prematurely due to poor light, and the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method was employed to determine the final outcome.
Multan’s top-order struggled, with Zain Abbas managing just six runs off 13 balls before being caught, and Sharjeel Khan departing without scoring after facing eight deliveries. However, the left-handed Haseebullah showcased exceptional resilience, crafting a remarkable innings of 106 runs off 108 balls, adorned with 12 fours and two sixes.
Sohaib Maqsood contributed a vital 32 runs off 35 balls before falling prey to Nauman Ali’s delivery in the 15th over. Sharoon Siraj added seven runs off 15 balls before being run out. Muhammad Shehzad and Muhammad Imran chipped in with 26 (off 31 balls) and 28 (off 25 balls), respectively.
The bowling prowess of Sohail Khan was evident as he claimed four wickets, dismissing Imran, Zahid Mehmood, Faisal Akram, and Mohammad Sadaqat while conceding 44 runs. Ghulam Mudassar supported with two wickets, conceding 31 runs. Noman Ali and Asad Shafiq each took one wicket.
In response, Karachi Whites’ openers, Shan Masood and Saim Ayub, laid a solid foundation with a partnership of 106 runs. Shan Masood contributed 41 runs off 38 balls before being dismissed in the 15th over. Saim Ayub played a pivotal role as the highest scorer for Karachi Whites, accumulating 95 runs off 86 balls, featuring 12 fours and a maximum, before falling to Zahid Mehmood in the 26th over.
Habibullah added 40 runs off 45 balls to the total, while contributions from Asad Shafiq (4 runs off 8 balls), Danish Aziz (33 runs off 42 balls), Sarfaraz Ahmed (28 runs off 27 balls), and Anwar Ali (22 runs off 14 balls) propelled Karachi Whites to a total of 280 runs, losing all wickets in 44.3 overs.
Multan’s Imran proved to be a formidable force, taking the crucial wickets of Shan Masood, Habibullah, and Azam Khan, conceding 58 runs. Faisal Akram and Mohammad Sadaqat claimed two wickets each, while Tahir Hussain and Zahid Mehmood took one wicket each.
Karachi Whites now advances to the final of the Pakistan Cup, where they will face Peshawar at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying clash for the prestigious title.
