Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced that they will be conducting a training camp for the women’s cricket team in preparation for their upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh. The camp is scheduled to take place from November 6 to November 10 at the Centre of Excellence in Tshwane.

Sixteen players have been selected to participate in the five-day camp, which aims to fine-tune the team’s skills and prepare them for the series against Bangladesh, scheduled from December 3 to December 23. Notably, twelve of these players were part of the recent home series against New Zealand, which included both One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals (T20Is).

The primary objective of this camp is to regroup with the players after their recent tours against Pakistan and New Zealand, as well as their participation in domestic cricket. Head coach Hilton Moreeng expressed the significance of the camp, stating, “This will be to make sure we continue with what needs to happen because we have another big tour in three weeks against Bangladesh.”

While the national team members will be present, the camp will also include players from the Women’s National Academy and the U19 squad. Annerie Dercksen, a young all-rounder, is making her return to the national camp after recovering from a finger injury.

However, some players will not be attending the camp due to other commitments. Suné Luus will be on annual leave, while Laura Wolvaardt, Chloé Tryon, and Marizanne Kapp are participating in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia.

The inclusion of younger players in the camp is a strategic move to ensure a competitive environment and to have reserve options in case of injuries or underperformance. Coach Moreeng emphasized the value of this approach, stating, “With youngsters knocking on the door, it makes it an extremely competitive environment.”

South Africa recently secured a 2-1 ODI series win over New Zealand and tied the T20I series 1-1 after the first three matches were affected by rain. They are now gearing up to face Bangladesh, with three T20Is and three ODIs scheduled, as part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 qualification campaign. These matches will be hosted across four venues in Benoni, Kimberley, East London, and Potchefstroom.

The Proteas Women National Camp Squad, comprising talented and experienced players, is set to make the most of this training camp to ensure they maintain their impressive form and continue their journey towards their qualification goal in the ICC Women’s Championship.
