  • Warner led SRH to their only IPL title win in 2016.
David Warner, the Australian opening batsman, expressed his disappointment over his strained ties with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), particularly when they blocked him on social media.

Warner had led SRH to their sole IPL championship in 2016 by defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He contributed 69 runs off 38 balls in the final, helping his team set a target of 209 runs for RCB, who could only manage 200 runs in response.

Warner was relieved of his captaincy duties for SRH in the middle of the IPL 2022 season due to deteriorating relations with the franchise. Kane Williamson of New Zealand took over as captain, but the team could only secure three victories in 14 matches.

In 2023, Warner discovered that he had been blocked by his former franchise while attempting to tag them in a post.

“It did (hurt) because it was a sense of like hurt for fans. The fans are the most important relationship you could have. With the engagement with the fans that I had, with the team had was very good,” Warner stated during a discussion with Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

He further added that he was unaware of the reason for being blocked, but found it strange since he continues to maintain a connection with the fans to this day.

"Not sure why I was blocked. But, I did engage with a lot of fans on the social media side for SRH. I did feel it was my duty to engage with the fans, making sure they keep coming back.

“That’s what is most important. But from the blocking point of view, I don’t know. I have been sitting on it for about 5 years. It was bizarre. At the end of the day, I still got fans who come onto my page and talk to everyone. So it’s great,” he added.
