Previously highly-ranked app, Instagram Lite has quietly has disappeared from Google PlayStore in the countries where it was active.
Current Instagram Lite users were directed to the main Instagram app via message claiming ‘Instagram Lite is No Longer Supported.’
“We are rolling back the test of the Instagram Lite app, a Facebook spokesperson said. “You can start using the latest version of Instagram instead to connect with the people and things you love,” they noted.
The app was launched on Google Play in June 2018 without any fan following. However, the app’s goal goal was to offer a smaller download that takes up less space on a mobile device , where storage space is a concern.
At launch, the “Lite” version of Instagram was 573 kilobytes, or roughly 1/55th the size of Instagram’s then 32-megabyte application.
Moreover, Instagram plans to roll out a new feature that will allow users to change chat color settings. After Messenger chat colors, it looks like Facebook will create the similar feature set for Instagram too.
The company is currently testing the new Instagram chat color feature, an app researcher told. She further guessed that the chat color option will lie under ‘Chat Settings’ of a particular chat.
The color changes will apply to every participant’s chat on the platform.
According to the app researcher, Jane, this new feature will surely make the boring chat more colorful with and users will use the platform for texting frequently.
