Spotify revealed Friday that it is extending its Blend playlists to include K-pop music, including the mega-popular boyband BTS, after launching the option last year.
Blend playlists on Spotify are a simple method for users to build shared playlists based on their listening habits. The business updated the music discovery tool in March, adding the option to “mix” with up to ten individuals or with musical artists. The latter is demonstrated by this latest K-pop growth.
BTS, Stray Kids, ENHYPEN, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, Nmixx, and AB6IX are among the K-pop Blend artists. Your favourite songs will be mixed with those of the aforementioned artists in this feature. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Spotify feature unless it also included data.
You can get a “sharing card” after mixing playlists that shows “taste-match” ratings that show which music you have in common. The cards may then be shared on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter.
The fact that the bands are quite active online is one of the reasons why K-pop has become a global phenomenon in recent years. Idols are encouraged to communicate with followers on social media sites, which promotes fans to create parasocial interactions. The Blend option on Spotify fits into this dynamic perfectly, since it gives the impression that you know something about a specific band or idol.
It’s a different story if the Spotify playlists are appropriate. My BTS Blend playlist suggests BTS, and I’d want to listen to a lot more Post Malone… and I’m fine with it.
