Elon Musk claims human brain chips are ready and he’ll get one
Elon Musk, the eccentric entrepreneur, has stated that his Neuralink brain chip is ready for usage, and he has sworn to get one implanted in his own head as a demonstration.
The mind-boggling device, which allows individuals to operate technology using nothing but their brain waves, has previously been implanted in a nine-year-old macaque monkey, who was able to play video games with its mind.
Musk agreed that the new equipment “sounds like a Black Mirror episode” since users will be able to “able to save and replay memories,” but he also highlighted its medicinal applications, claiming it might cure blindness and even paralysis.
Now, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla has taken to Twitter to say, “We are now confident that the Neuralink device is ready for humans, so timing is a function of working through the FDA approval process.”
He said that the chip is undetectable and promised to procure one for himself as a demonstration.
While some are delighted about the groundbreaking new technology, which can allegedly provide users with orgasms on demand, leading scientists have stated they are concerned about the potential implications.
Some scientists are concerned that society will be unprepared for the unanticipated transformation of combining the human brain with technology in such a novel way.
Doctor Karola Kreitmair, assistant professor of medical history and bioethics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, pointed out that once the device is placed in the brain, removing it or repairing any harm caused would be extremely difficult.
“I don’t think there is sufficient public discourse on what the big picture implications of this kind of technology becoming available are,” she said.
“I worry that there’s this uncomfortable marriage between a company that is for-profit… and these medical interventions that hopefully are there to help people.”
