Google, the big American tech company, has signed up as a business with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
Sources have told that the SECP has given Google a certificate of registration under Section 435 of the Companies Act 2017.
Documents show that Google Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. has been registered under the Companies Act of 2017 so that it can open a liaison office in Pakistan.
Sources say that Google will start doing business in Pakistan very soon after it registers with SECP. Next week, a group from Google will go to Pakistan to meet with the government and talk about how it works there.
Sources say that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) was in touch with international companies and trying hard to bring them to Pakistan, but the companies were hesitant because of the political instability.
But there has been progress in this area. First Google and then Tik Tok agreed to open offices in Pakistan, and the ministry is still talking with Facebook.
Officials from Pakistan’s IT ministry are hoping that Google will open an office there in the next few days. MoITT officials say that Google has started a number of projects in Pakistan in the past few years.
In September, Google started offering career certifications so that all Pakistanis could find their own ways to learn. Google started a suicide hotline in Pakistan in June 2022 to help with suicides and mental health problems.
The MoITT official said that the fact that Google has set up a business in Pakistan is a good sign. Google is putting $3.5 million into the Google Certification programme, and the company’s registration with SECP shows that it wants to put more money into it.
