Smart sink was meant to wash hands and mobile devices
Smart sink: Instead of the usual exciting seasonal offers like savoury rice or Mobile Suit Gundam burgers, a restroom is the topic of talk on the Japanese side of Twitter at the moment.
Sho Sawada recently uploaded a video captured in the McDonald’s washroom due to their shock at a system set up at the sink.
Sawada noticed anything odd as they went to wash their hands in the bathroom. They were taken aback when they read the directions and realised it might be used to clean mobile devices.

Some McDonald’s in Japan have “phone washers” like Sawada’s video. WOTA invented the WOSH system.
The WOSH hand-washing station disinfects smartphones using a hydrological cycle system, deep UV LEDs, and a reusable water-based sink. WOTA says you can wash your phone with your hands after 30 seconds of sterilisation.
Given how often we touch our phones, how many tables we place them on (even those at McDonald’s), and how often we bring them to our faces, it’s a setting that’s welcomed and can improve hygiene. Even though WOSH may be installed anywhere, many people were surprised to see something so “futuristic” in a McDonald’s washroom.
“It’s best not to let UV light hit the end of the organic EL display,” said a user.
