Nokia sues Amazon and HP over video streaming patent violations
Finnish telecom equipment manufacturer Nokia is taking legal action against Amazon and HP for using its video streaming-related essential patents without authorization.
Nokia has filed a lawsuit in a Delaware federal court and has also initiated similar legal proceedings in Germany, India, the UK, and the European Unified Patent Court.
Nokia points out that Amazon Prime and Twitch platforms are employing Nokia-patented technology for video compression, content delivery, and content recommendation, among other applications. Furthermore, HP devices were also found to be in violation of Nokia‘s patented video streaming technology.
Nokia asserts that it extended fair licensing offers to Amazon and HP for its patented technology, but both companies declined the proposals.
Nokia is a prominent research and development player with investments exceeding €140 billion in the past two decades, holding ownership of more than 20,000 patent families worldwide.
