In a groundbreaking move toward bolstering Pakistan’s cybersecurity infrastructure, the National AeroSpace Science and Technology Park (NASTP) played host to the much-anticipated ‘Cyber Evolution Conference’ on the 14th of December 2023. The conference organized by Rewterz, a leading cybersecurity firm, unfolded against the backdrop of recent developments in the country’s approach to combating cybercrimes.

The ‘Cyber Evolution Conference’ served as a platform for cybersecurity experts from diverse sectors, including Corporate Organizations, CISOs of Banks, Academia, Military, and Government Departments.

Held at NASTP, a hub of innovation and strategic collaboration approved by the Government of Pakistan as a project of strategic national importance, the conference aligned with NASTP’s mission to drive research and innovation in information technology, aeronautics, and cybersecurity.

Keynote speakers, including Sohail Zindani and Ahmed Tarek from RSA, took the stage to share profound insights into the practical implementation of cybersecurity strategies. Zindani delved into the transformational journey of AshreiTech: From Ideas to Action, while Tarek explored the theme of ‘Cyber Evolution: Transforming for Cyber Resilience.’

A highlight of the conference was the session on ‘Unified Identity Platform: Complete and AI-Powered Identity Capabilities,’ shedding light on the next frontier in identity management. The distinguished Chairman, Faiz Ahmad Shuja, addressed the audience with an insightful session on ‘Cyber Resilience: Adapting and Thriving in the Face of Evolution.’

Yesterday a pivotal decision was taken by the federal cabinet of Pakistan, which approved the establishment of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). This “landmark” decision, as described by Pakistan’s Caretaker Information Technology Minister Dr. Umar Saif, marks a strategic shift in combating cyber threats and positions NCCIA as a formidable replacement for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The NCCIA, endowed with expertise, funding, and resources, is poised to spearhead the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of cybercrimes in Pakistan. This visionary step underscores the country’s commitment to staying ahead in the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity.
