Apple is set to introduce a revamped Mac Studio later this year, powered by the advanced M4 Max and M4 Ultra chips. This update aims to reinvigorate Apple’s Mac lineup, bridging the gap since the Mac mini adopted the M4 Pro chip. Currently, the Mac Studio is equipped with M2 Max and M2 Ultra processors.

M4 Max Chip

The M4 Max chip, already featured in the latest MacBook Pro, is among the fastest available. It includes a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU, delivering exceptional performance for demanding tasks.

M4 Ultra Chip

The M4 Ultra chip, which will feature a 32-core CPU and an 80-core GPU, is expected to power the high-end Mac Studio. It utilizes Apple’s UltraFusion technology for seamless processing and unparalleled speed.

Key Features of the New Mac Studio

The updated Mac Studio will likely include Thunderbolt 5 ports, providing speeds of up to 120Gb/s—three times faster than the current Thunderbolt 4. Additionally, Apple may introduce Wi-Fi 7 support, offering speeds up to 46Gbps and improved connectivity on 320 MHz channels with reduced signal interference.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this upgraded Mac Studio is expected to debut in the first half of 2025, potentially during late spring or at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). This release marks a significant step forward in Apple’s desktop computing innovations.
