2 Minor students ‘marry’ in classroom

A bizarre incident has gone viral these days as a minor couple was spotted tying the knot inside a classroom of a government junior college in Rajamundry city of Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district. Video of the incident went viral.

In the video, the couple was seen standing in uniforms inside the empty classroom as the minor boy ties the ‘moodu mullu’ (three nuptial knots) around the neck of the girl (according to Telugu culture). After that, another girl, a cousin of the ‘bride’, was heard directing the ‘groom’ to put a bindi on the girl’s forehead. She says “Put the bottu soon before anybody comes, I am getting scared. Apply it properly.”

The video spread like a fire on social media. All three students were dismissed from the college for the act. Police took a suo moto cognizance of the incident and contacted the Department of Women and Children Development.

On the other hand, reports revealed that the minors claimed the wedding incident was a ‘prank’. Deccan Chronicle reported that the trio sought an apology from the college principal, saying that the video was just shot for a “prank”. District collector (DM) D Muralidhar Reddy has asked the education department to submit a report explaining the incident, the DC report added.
