I’m a crunchy mom, my baby is vegan, and he doesn’t go to bed until 3 a.m. – there is no bedtime in my house
A ‘crunchy’ mother has revealed how she allows her 19-month-old son to sleep at 3 a.m.
Full-time mother Alice, 22, from Arizona, wants to raise her son, Fern, as naturally as possible, adhering to an organic vegan diet and allowing him to sleep on his own schedule.
Because of her unique parenting style, the mother has gone viral several times.
She admits to not giving her son a bedtime routine, believing that baby formula should be illegal, and failing to apply sunscreen to him.
Alice, who is currently expecting her second child, was recently asked if this was still the case.
She explained in a TikTok video that they practise ‘intuitive sleeping,’ which means Alice, her husband, Caleb, and Fern all sleep when they feel like it, rather than on a schedule.
In a separate video, Alice explained that she frequently goes to bed between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., and that when she asks Fern if he’s ready to sleep, the night owl frequently says no.
Fern even stays up later than his father, who typically goes to bed between 12 p.m. and 3 a.m.
In addition to following Fern’s natural sleep cycle, Alice only feeds him an organic vegan diet.
Fern’s mother demonstrated his typical evening diet, which included seaweed, fruit jerky, two pears, a smoothie, pretzels, juice, avocado on sourdough bread, muffins, and a vegan chocolate ice lolly.
She explained that the family went vegan overnight, but going organic required some adjustment.
“It tasted disgusting to me, and my body had become addicted to natural flavours, which are just as bad as artificial flavours.”
“The most difficult thing for us to swap was ketchup.” She continued.
Although Alice and Caleb are perfectly content to let Ferns stay up late while they sleep, some commenters were concerned that no one was keeping an eye on him.
“What does baby fern do when you and daddy fern are sleeping?” one inquired. Alice responded by saying she didn’t know.
