On Sunday, the corpse of a missing cardiothoracic surgical fellow was discovered along the Potato Falls River in Wisconsin.
Dr. Kelsey Musgrove was last heard from by text message on March 26, while out on a trek, and she was reported missing four days later.
Musgrove went on a solo hike to the Potato River Falls waterfall, which is located 285 miles north of Madison, Wisconsin.
She texted relatives and friends on March 26 to let them know she had arrived at the waterfall.
She was reported missing four days later when no one had heard from her.
According to a news release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Musgrove “went on a hiking expedition and hasn’t returned.”
A search team comprised of 25 agencies from Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota was dispatched by the sheriff’s office.
Eight days after her final communication, her corpse was discovered near the falls.
Authorities are now looking into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Authorities are currently not suspecting any wrongdoing.
Dr. Musgrove was a cardiothoracic surgery fellow at the University of Wisconsin Health and was enrolled in a three-year fellowship programme with the UW Department of Surgery when she died.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office informed The News & Observer, “We would want to convey our heartfelt sympathies to Kelsey’s family.”
