After having his age verified, it was determined that Gino, a dog from California, was over 22 years old. Guinness World Records awarded Gino the title of the world’s oldest living dog.
According to the dog’s current owner, forty-year-old Alex Wolf, he and his college roommates got the dog, who was two years old at the time, from the Humane Society of Boulder Valley in Colorado in 2002.
According to what Wolf said to the media, “He’s been there every step of the way,” added, “I’m so glad we got him. He’s the best.”
Gino’s birth date of September 24, 2000, was confirmed by Guinness World Records, earning him the title of the world’s oldest living dog. TobyKeith, the canine who held the previous record for longest life expectancy, is still alive and well but is just 21 years old.
Wolf believed that Gino’s continued good health was due to a combination of nutritious food, regular visits to the veterinarian, and the dog’s natural enthusiasm for life.
“I give him all the credit,” Wolf said. “He’s gotten a lot of love, and I think he’s just a strong dog.”
