2023 Aurat March Lahore theme and posters are revealed

The theme and poster for the renowned women’s day demonstration Aurat March, which is held every year in Pakistani cities, are revealed. The poster serves as a feminist response to these trying times, alluding to “a reimagining of Lahore, one where women’s public presence is celebrated, one full of care and joy,” despite the theme being “Feminism in times of Crises.”

“Pakistan is plagued with challenges on multiple fronts including security and safety crisis, economic crisis, climate crisis, and a relentless crisis of gendered violence,” the independent collective writes in support of the 2023 theme. These issues are well established in man centric frameworks. We want a feminist response that puts the experiences of the most affected people at the center. These responses need to be fair and democratic.”

 Aurat March has also released a utopian visual representation of Lahore through its official poster, reimagining a different reality for the city of Lahore where women’s public presence is celebrated and accepted with “care and joy.”

“This collaborative poster may be seen as a point of departure towards an alternative future for Lahore,” the women’s group says. Our utopian vision of the hostile landscapes that surround us and prevent our bodies from inhabiting and belonging in public space is expressed in the project itself, which is a demonstration of bhenchara. This alternate future can be shaped until it no longer exists as a dreamscape by the potential of bodies moving together, gathering, remaining, and flourishing.

Lahore, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Faisalabad, Multan, Quetta, and Karachi are among the Pakistani cities where the march is planned to take place on March 8.
