An elderly man survived on croissants, sweets, and biscotti for more than a week while stranded in his car on a Californian road in the snow. 81-year-old Jerry Jouret travelled three hours from his mountain home in Big Pine, California, to his family’s residence in Gardnerville, Nevada. On February 24, according to media reports, the mathematician and former NASA employee, however, lost control of his car and was partially buried in a snowbank along a restricted route.
Jouret continued to drive his vehicle, utilizing little gas and battery power while occasionally turning on the SUV to warm up. He kept himself alive by consuming the meagre foods he had brought along and occasionally rolled down the windows to eat snow. Midway through the third day, as Jouret was rolling the electronic window back up, his car’s battery died. During the time he was stuck in the snow, it remained partially open, according to media sources.
Four days after Jouret left for home, the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a missing person. The severe weather prevented a search and response team from starting a rescue operation right away. The 81-year-old was trapped in the snow for six days before making an unsuccessful attempt to get home. Only after discovering a message on his mobile device were the authorities able to focus their search and locate him.
Even the sheriff’s office in Inyo County shared a post about the incident.
