Doctors can share their work and teach people about health on TikTok, but they have to be careful. They can’t talk too much about their patients because of laws like HIPAA that protect patient privacy.
Who is Dr. Roxy?
Dr. Katharine Roxanne Grawe, who used the name “Dr. Roxy” on TikTok, kept sharing her surgeries on the platform. She thought it was helpful for her viewers.
She gained a lot of followers and likes, and some people even became her patients because of what they saw on TikTok. But this didn’t prevent the local medical board from taking action against her, and they made her stop making TikTok videos.

Ohio Medical Board Cancels License
Dr. Katharine Roxanne Grawe, known as “Dr. Roxy” on TikTok, had her medical license suspended by the Ohio Medical Board in November 2022. They warned her about filming surgeries earlier but felt she prioritized livestreaming over patient care.
She fought to restore her license but failed in July 2023. The board’s decision came after investigating her TikTok surgeries and patient complaints about surgical problems. She was fined $4,500.
“We’ve seen an extreme lack of professionalism. Her posts done as a marketing ploy. In the video [referring to stream of surgery for Patient One named in case} you can see her looking at the camera and not paying attention to the patient.” State Medical Board Member speaking now.
