Ricky Alex Driggers, aged 28 and hailing from North Carolina, was apprehended on March 14, 2024, following an incident where he intentionally struck and killed NCDOT worker Jonathan Adam LeCompte during a carjacking in Lumberton. LeCompte, a Good Samaritan from Fayetteville, attempted to halt Driggers’ escape from the scene, as depicted in a viral video capturing the confrontation.

Despite LeCompte’s warnings and firing shots, Driggers managed to reverse the stolen truck, prompting LeCompte to shout warnings to bystanders. Tragically, the truck collided with LeCompte, resulting in his fatal injuries. Driggers fled the scene but was later captured by the Lumberton Police Department after crashing the stolen car.

Driggers faces charges including first-degree murder, Larceny of Motor Vehicle, Fleeing/Eluding Arrest with Motor Vehicle, and Two Counts of Attempted Common Law Robbery. He is currently held without bond at the Robeson County Detention Center.

Jonathan Adam LeCompte, aged 38, a devoted husband and father from Fayetteville, lost his life in the carjacking incident while working for NCDOT. Despite the efforts of Good Samaritans, Driggers managed to flee the scene and steal another vehicle before being apprehended by law enforcement officers.
