Islamabad weather update; rains, gusty winds predicted

ISLAMABAD – Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are anticipated in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various isolated locations across Pakistan on Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air currently prevails over most parts of Pakistan, while a shallow westerly wave affects the upper regions of the country.

Under these conditions, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in the twin cities, parts of the Potohar region, northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir from Friday night through Sunday.

In Islamabad, maximum temperatures are predicted to range between 41-43°C on Saturday and 38-40°C on Sunday.

In Rawalpindi, maximum temperatures are expected to be between 40-42°C on both Saturday and Sunday.

Heatwaves have persisted in the plains of the country over the past 24 hours. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms have occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Jacobabad recorded the highest temperature in the country at 50°C. Maximum temperatures in Dadu and Turbat were 49°C, Sibbi and Lasbella reached 48°C, and Khairpur, Noorpur Thal, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, and Mohenjo-Daro recorded 47°C. Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanpur, Larkana, Mandi Bahauddin, Kasur, and Okara reached 46°C.

In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 42°C with an evening relative humidity of 20 percent.

In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41°C with an evening relative humidity of 13 percent.
