A school begins to threaten students with expulsion if they fail to bring basic stationery to class, such as a pen, pencil, or ruler.

Millfield High School in Thornton, Lancashire, received backlash from parents after sending a text explaining a ‘three-strike’ rule on basic stationery, which may result in a ‘fixed-term exclusion.’

According to the text, if a student forgets essential tools such as two pens, a pencil, and a ruler, they will receive detentions and may even be kicked out of class temporarily.

Millfield High claims that the regulation helps pupils prepare for life’s responsibilities, but parents have criticized the ‘joke’ of a policy, calling it ‘excessive.’

According to Darren Worthington, his daughter received her first ‘strike’ for a broken ruler.

Following the incident, Darren received the following text: ‘Good day. Your child went to school today without the proper equipment.

‘According to the letter provided before half term, pupils should bring two pens, a pencil, and a ruler in their pencil case.’

‘They should also double-check that they have their schedule.’ If a student forgets their equipment twice in a week, they will receive a 90-minute detention from the Headteacher.

‘A fixed-term exclusion will be imposed if equipment is not brought three times per week.’
