Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that he will launch a NASA rocket in a month, for the first time in 27 years.

Enrico Palermo, director of the Albanian and Australian Space Agency (ASA), said Wednesday that NASA’s three suborbital missiles will be launched from the Northern Territory (NT) Arnhem Space Center between June 26 and July 12. This is the first time since 1995 that the US space program has launched a rocket into Australia and is being launched from an overseas commercial launch site.

According to a press release on Wednesday, 75 NASA employees will visit Australia to monitor the launches used to study solar physics, astrophysics, and planetary science. He said Albania’s launch was based on the legacy of Australia’s aerospace industry.

“We can trace Australia’s famous connection to the space industry since the 1950s,” he said. “This project will bring together global and regional industries to lead Australia’s aerospace industry into a new era.”

The Australian Space Agency (SAA) was set up by the former government to create 20,000 new jobs and increase the value of the industry to AUD 12 billion ($ 8.6 billion) by 2030.

Starting in 2021, the head of ASA Palermo said that NASA launches will help achieve these goals. “Increasing launch activities in Australia will help unlock the entire value chain of aerospace services, which will promote the industry and create new businesses and jobs in the country,” he said.

According to the NT site, the Arnhem Space Center is located in the eastern Arnhem region, just 12 degrees north of the equator, which will allow rocket carriers to use the Earth’s rotation to reach extra speed.
