Chicago Police changed their policy on foot chases
The Chicago Police Department (CPD) introduced a new foot-pursuit policy on Tuesday....
Officials said that a Chicago police officer died; in what seems to have been a suicide on Saturday morning. According to Chicago police, the agency “suffered the devastating death; of one of our police officers to an apparent suicide.”
The statement from the police department said, “The officer’s family is forever altered; and we ask that you please hold the officer’s loved ones; in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to absorb this tragedy.”
Additionally, Mayor Lori Lightfoot issued the following statement:
“My heart breaks for the whole family of the Chicago Police Department; who are mourning the death of one of their own. We cannot take for granted the demands made on the men and women; who make up our police force; officers risk their lives every single day to ensure our safety. In order to assist all officers’ mental health; and well-being, the Superintendent and I are still committed to making sure they have access to the resources; and supports they require. I implore any cop who requires assistance to get it. Call the Employee Assistance Program at 312-743-0378; for options that will help you and your family.”
“Being a police officer is a challenging profession; and the daily labour they perform to protect this community adds another strain. They balance caring for their families and themselves; while continuing to risk their lives despite this. Always keep in mind that these officers are also people; just like you and me, with the same joys and worries; struggles and victories.
