Johnson of the UK resigns
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson ended his final setpiece event in parliament on Wednesday; by stating, “Hasta la vista, baby,” to one final wave of applause from his freshly mutinous MPs.
At his final session of Prime Minister’s Questions, Johnson fought off opposition charges while defending his three; turbulent years in government, including Brexit, COVID vaccinations, and Ukraine. Johnson also commended the people vying to succeed him.
The new leader is scheduled to be introduced on September 5; when the House of Commons returns from its summer holiday.
The three surviving Conservative candidates, Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, and Penny Mordaunt; were criticised bitterly by Labour leader Keir Starmer for their assaults on one another and the performance of their own administration.
According to reports, Johnson’s Downing Street team is waging a “anyone but Rishi” campaign; blaming the former finance minister of organising a cabinet coup that led to Johnson’s resignation last month; following a number of scandals, including “Partygate.”
In response to laughing, the prime minister stated of the Tory election; “I’m not following this thing especially attentively.”
However, he lauded Sunak’s handling of the economy during the epidemic and asserted that any one of the three; “would wipe the floor” with Labour “like some domestic detergent.”
Over COVID, Johnson once again referred to Starmer as “Captain Hindsight”; and labelled him “a giant meaningless human bollard.”
The votes of the party’s MPs have eliminated several Conservative contenders in the contest.
Later on Wednesday, the last two were scheduled to be announced before presenting their case to grassroots Conservatives in August.
However, Johnson offered some words of wisdom to the candidates; advising them to “keep close to the Americans, stick up for the Ukrainians; stick up for freedom and democracy everywhere.”

The 58-year-old Johnson described serving in government as “the greatest honour” of his life.
He said, “I contributed to a significant realignment in UK politics and the largest Tory majority in 40 years.
“We’ve improved democracy and reestablished our country’s independence… That’s plenty to be moving on with, in my opinion. I helped this country survive a pandemic and saved another one from barbarism.
