Mayor of Highland Park reiterates plea
“The time to begin saving lives is now”. Nancy Rotering, the mayor of Highland Park, concluded her appearance before Congressmen; by pleading for a ban on assault rifles. She shared her first-hand story of the massacre at her community’s Fourth of July parade; which left seven people dead and at least 48 others wounded and injured; with members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a piece of legislation that was first submitted in the Illinois General Assembly more than 16 months ago; and calls for a statewide ban on assault weapons has been given fresh life.
Smashing Pumpkins vocalist Billy Corgan is putting on a charity performance with Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction; while Highland Park continues to recover. In an interview with the Tribune; Corgan remarked, “It’s virtually hard to express into words what this town is going through.”
