3 students from Charles Page High School died in a car accident at Sand Springs Lake
Police and Sand Springs Public Schools announced. That three Charles Page High School students were murdered and two others were injured in a single-car crash Thursday afternoon.
Deputy Police Chief Todd Enzbrenner said the car crashed around 12:15 p.m.. Crash happened on Park Road near Colony Circle, just south of Sand Springs Lake. He said that the car was travelling east on Park when it failed to negotiate a curve to the southeast and ran off the road on the northeast side.
Three students were killed, and two others were hospitalised in Tulsa. Enzbrenner has no idea whether the students were wearing seat belts on Thursday.
The students’ names had not been revealed as of Thursday evening, pending communication of family. Sand Springs Public Schools issued the following statement Thursday afternoon, written by Superintendent Sherry Durkee:
“Our community has experienced a heartbreaking loss today.” We regret to inform you of the deaths of three Charles Page High School students who were killed in a traffic accident on Thursday, September 15. Two CPHS students were also injured in the crash and are currently in the hospital.
“Words cannot express the profound grief and heartbreak felt in our district. Our deepest sympathies go to the families and loved ones of those involved.”
Additional counselling services are available at the high school and throughout the district, according to the statement, “to support our children at this difficult time.”
“We will continue to keep these children and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers,” the statement says, thanking everyone in the Sand Springs community and nearby areas who have offered support and comfort.
Juniors and seniors are permitted to leave campus for lunch, however many students leave and return as part of their attendance at concurrent programmes at Tulsa Tech and Tulsa Community College.
According to Enzbrenner’s “best educated guess,” the students were on their way to lunch. According to reports, the lunch break began roughly 10 minutes before the incident.
This is not the first time this year that many high school kids have been killed in an accident around lunchtime in Oklahoma.
