Firefighters and police uses fireworks and petrol bombs in Scotland
In a slew of violent bonfire night incidents in Scotland, police claim they were attacked with pyrotechnics, petrol bombs, and a Molotov cocktail.
Two Edinburgh police officers received medical treatment for head injuries after youngsters threw bricks at their patrol car.
In a separate incident in the city, 100 young people tossed pyrotechnics at passing cars and people.
As the department responded to more than 350 callouts, there were five attacks on firefighters around Scotland.
Tim Mairs, assistant chief constable, charged individuals involved with “terrorizing” neighborhoods. He continued, “Those actions will have repercussions.
Twelve persons had been detained, and 15 others had been scattered from police dispersion areas.
In Edinburgh, the majority of serious occurrences occurred.
Social media footage from the city showed a motorbike gang rushing through the streets while pyrotechnics were being shot along the ground, seemingly intended at people and vehicles. These events recalled serious disruptions in Dundee earlier this week.
At Marischal Road in Niddrie, about 100 adolescents let off fireworks, igniting a disturbance that started around midnight.
A fire had been started earlier in the night to block the route from passing vehicles, and police have since closed Niddrie Mains Road to traffic. Additionally, the pavement was littered with the debris of a temporary bus stop.
Police Scotland said specialist officers had been deployed to the area of the city as part of the force’s Operation Moonbeam, and said there had been “reports of various incidents including anti-social use of fireworks, a break-in to a shop and road blockages”.
After a brick broke a police car’s window, one of the officers in the vicinity received a small lip cut.
A spokesperson added: “A police vehicle has also been struck with a bottle containing a flammable substance – however, no damage was sustained and no injuries were reported.”
In the Duddingston area of the capital, police vehicles had petrol bombs thrown at them “by a number of youths”, a statement said.
According to reports, the same group blocked off roads. There were no reported injuries.
Fireworks were fired towards the local police station and members of the public in Drylaw, but no one was hurt, and no structural damage was done to the building.
Firefighters were summoned to put out a wheelie bin fire on Ferry Road Drive but were attacked with pyrotechnics by kids brandishing scaffolding poles and baseball bats, according to police.
Bricks were also thrown at the police officers present.
Police said that 20 juveniles attacked Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel in Langside Street, Clydebank, using fireworks.
One police car received “very little” damage, and a man was taken into custody for assault and reckless and culpable behavior.
Two persons were detained in Glasgow after a man tossed a flare into a throng of onlookers outside the OVO Hydro.
