King Charles pays staff up to £600 for cost-of-living crisis

The King’s staff will get a bonus payment of up to £600 to help them with the issue caused by rising living expenses.

According to the publication, the bonuses, which will be given to employees like cleaners on top of this month’s pay, will total tens of thousands of pounds and originate from the King’s own wealth.

Employees making under £30,000 will receive a single payment of £600, while those making more would receive less.

The Buckingham Palace chose not to respond.

According to the media, the incentive is being paid out of the King’s Privy Purse and no taxpayer funds are being used.

This money comes from the 18,000 hectare-sized private estate known as the Duchy of Lancaster. It comprises real estate in central London as well as land in places like Lancashire and Yorkshire. Typically, the Duchy of Lancaster turns a profit of roughly £20 million every year.

According to media, those making between £30,000 and £40,000 will receive £400 in a single payment, while those making between £40,000 and £45,000 will receive £350.

The King is donating money from his own pocket to the household’s lowest earners to assist them deal with the rising cost of living crisis, a source informed the newspaper.

“It is to target where it is needed the most in the Royal Household and reflects the reality of the economic situation the country faces.

“The King is very much aware of the soaring energy bills people are facing and worried about the economic wellbeing of loyal palace staff and doing what he can.”

The Sovereign Grant is used to pay for 491 full-time equivalent employees spread among the royal palaces, with a wage expense of £23.7 million, according to the royal accounts for 2020–2021.
