Ten days after the alleged attack in October of last year, which took place in a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, Cassius Turvey passed away in the hospital.

Following the teen’s passing, the Indigenous community experienced an outpouring of grief, and vigils were held across Australia to demand “Justice for Cassius.”

Jack Steven James Brearley, 21, who is accused of hitting Cassius with a metal rod, was charged with the first murder in October.

According to the Media, Aleesha Louise Gilmore, 20, Mitchell Colin Forth, 24, and Brodie Lee Palmer, 27, three further individuals accused with murder made their appearance in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.

As rumors regarding the purpose of the purported attack spread in the days after Cassius’ murder, Western Australia Police Commissioner Col. Blanch released a statement pleading with the public to “refrain from false conjecture.”

According to a GoFundMe website created by Cassius’s family’s supporters, Cassius was taken to the hospital right after with cuts to his ear and forehead and required five days to recover before being released.

Following two strokes and a seizure just hours after leaving the hospital, Cassius passed away on October 23 in the company of his loved ones.

Since it was created in October, thousands of individuals have donated to the GoFundMe page, nearly tripling its original goal of just over $500,000.

Mechelle Turvey, Cassius’ mother, read the charges in court on Friday and then issued a statement in which she thanked the community for its support.

“On behalf of Cassius loved ones we again give gratitude to everyone for their support,” the statement said. “The news of 3 others being charged is another step towards justice and healing for many.”
