President Tayyip Erdogan was not satisfied with the speed of the response to the devastating earthquakes that struck the country’s south.
“So many buildings were damaged that unfortunately, we were not able to speed up our interventions as quickly as we had desired,” Erdogan said during a visit to the hard-hit southern city of Adiyaman.
The declaration was made a day after Erdogan acknowledged that the government’s response to the accident had “shortcomings.”
Erdogan noted that following the attack, some people started plundering marketplaces and attacking businesses.
He asserted that the government could swiftly punish the guilty parties if a state of emergency was established in the hard-hit districts.
