Israeli forces raid near Jericho in the occupied West Bank resulted in the deaths of several Palestinian militants.

Although it has not been established whether all of the victims were gunmen, the death toll is thought to be five.

It is the most recent of the Israeli military’s practically nightly operations against extremists in the area.

Since the beginning of this year, there have been a lot of deadly raids and attacks against Israelis.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the mission of the operation on Sunday night was to apprehend a “Hamas terrorist cell,” which the IDF claimed was responsible for a shooting attack on a restaurant adjacent to a Jewish settlement near Jericho a week earlier. That attack didn’t result in any injuries.

In the West Bank, Hamas—a radical Islamist movement—is less prevalent. It governs the Gaza Strip. The majority of the Palestinian Authority (PA), which is dominated by Hamas’ secular foe Fatah, is in charge of those cities and villages.

The raid and activity by a Hamas cell are unusual in Jericho, where there is a sizable concentration of PA security forces that are loyal to Fatah.

Witnesses report hearing a lot of shooting during the incident at the sizable Aqabat Jabr refugee camp in Jericho. At the epicenter of the action, a modest house was littered with bullet holes and blood stains.

IDF spokesman Ran Kochav claimed that soldiers “neutralized the terrorists,” some of whom he claimed were responsible for the restaurant attack.

According to Hamas, several of the victims were fighters.

Jihad Abu al-Assal, the governor of Jericho, reported that the IDF had removed five bodies and killed five individuals. He added that eight more persons were detained.

Tensions between Israel and Palestine have risen sharply since the IDF killed 10 Palestinians, including two civilians, during a raid against militants in the West Bank city of Jenin ten days ago.

A “terror team,” according to Israeli security services, has been preparing an impending strike.

A Palestinian gunman killed seven people hours later outside a synagogue in occupied East Jerusalem by opening fire on Jewish worshippers and bystanders.

The next morning in East Jerusalem, a 13-year-old Palestinian fired a crowd of people, injuring a father and son from Israel.

Later that day, a gunman and his accomplice were captured on security camera footage entering the restaurant close to the Vered Yeriho community, where roughly 30 people were seated.

Armed with an assault rifle, the man reportedly fired one shot into the air before his weapon jammed. The man and his companion then reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle with an Israeli licence plate.

International requests for calm have been made, including by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who met with Israeli and Palestinian leaders in Jerusalem and the West Bank after the most recent tragedy.

Israeli troops have murdered at least 37 Palestinians in the West Bank so far this year, both militants and civilians, as they continue their operations there.

More than 150 Palestinians were slain in the West Bank last year, almost entirely by Israeli forces. Unarmed victims, terrorist gunmen, and armed assailants were all among the deceased.

Over 30 persons, including civilians, police officers, and soldiers, were slain in a series of attacks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs against Israelis as well as terrorist firing at troops during arrest raids.
