A guy has been detained on suspicion of murdering a woman who passed away in a Ludwell Valley park following an alleged knife attack.
The 74-year-old victim was attacked on Saturday in Ludwell Valley Park in Wonford, Exeter, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.
Police responded to the call at around 16:00 GMT, and emergency personnel also arrived, however the local woman passed away there.
Armed police made an arrest of a 30-year-old man from the Exmouth region on Exeter High Street shortly after 21:30 GMT.
Police stated in a statement that they were unsure of the attack’s purpose and that they did not think the victim and suspect were acquainted.
Authorities think they may have found the knife that was allegedly used in the attack.
The suspect remained in prison, according to Ch Supt Dan Evans, who added that no one else was being sought.
“I would like to reassure people that this is an isolated incident,” he said.
“Whilst this type of incident is very rare, Wonford is a very close community and I know the death will be felt deeply by all who live in the area.
“My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim at this tragic time.”
Anybody with knowledge is urged to contact police, according to a police appeal.
