Poland declares that it will send Leopard tanks to Ukraine
Poland has reportedly dispatched its first Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine, according to a government official.
“The first Leopards from Poland went to our neighbors from Ukraine. Today’s visit by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has a measurable character for the security of Ukraine and Europe,” Polish minister Piotr Muller wrote on Twitter.
On the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Morawiecki is in Kyiv.
In addition to the more than 250 Soviet-era tanks that Warsaw has sent over the past year, Poland has promised to deploy 14 Leopards to Ukraine, and troops are already receiving training on how to handle them.
According to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Poland has sent the first four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and will deploy more in the near future.
At a press conference held in Kyiv alongside his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Morawiecki stated that additional tanks will be arriving “in a few days” to help protect Ukrainian troops on the battlefield.
According to the news agency, the Polish prime minister reportedly announced to reporters that 60 PT-91 tanks would also be delivered to Ukraine soon.
At dawn this morning, Ukrainian soldiers undergoing training with the British military commemorated the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
Marking one year since Russia’s illegal invasion, 300 Ukrainian recruits were joined by their British instructors and international partners for a sunrise field service and a minute’s silence. 🌅🇬🇧🇺🇦
